Guaranteed Ride Home

The Guaranteed Ride Home program ensures that you have a ride if you need it – for example, if you have a family issue or need to work unexpected hours.

So relax! Take the bus or train, carpool, vanpool, bike or walk to work and know that you have a Guaranteed Ride Home.

How does it work?

Complete a free online registration. If you took the bus or train, shared the ride in a carpool or vanpool, bicycled or walked and need a ride home, you’re covered!

Registered program participants can use a Guaranteed Ride Home up to four times per year or $100 in value, whichever comes first. For example, if your Guaranteed Ride Home is on a bus, you can be reimbursed for four trips during a year. If you choose a cab ride, your fare will be reimbursed up to an annual amount of $100.

Who is eligible?

Commuters who ride the bus, light rail or Northstar, or carpool, vanpool, bicycle or walk to work or school at least three times per week are eligible. To participate, you must have an e-mail address and internet access.

How do I get started?

Register using the link below. It’s easy and free. You’ll create an account with your commute information. If you’re a transit rider, enter your Go-To Card, Metropass, College Pass or U-Pass serial number so we can reimburse your pass automatically.

To use your ride home on a bus or train, use your Go-To Card or pass to pay for the ride. Within a week of the trip, log on to your account and fill out an online reimbursement request . We’ll credit your balance with the amount you paid.

To use your ride home for cab fare, call the taxi provider of your choice. Pay for the ride and be sure to get a signed and dated receipt.  Within a week of your ride, fill out an online reimbursement request. Print the request form and submit it by mail along with your taxi receipt. You will receive reimbursement by check by U.S. mail within 21 days after we receive the request form.
